About this deal

According to a royal source, the Duke of Sussex allegedly berated Burrell during the private meeting, accusing him of exploiting Princess Diana's death for financial gain They live at Frogmore... Just a stone's throw away from the Queen's sitting room at Windsor Castle, they could have walked up the hill with Archie and a bunch of flowers, popped in to see Granny and said, 'Hi Granny, we're home', that would have been the way to do it, bypass the protocol and go to the family." He insisted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle knew about the newly-released biography Finding Freedom, but pretended they did not. A spokesman for Harry and Meghan said the couple did not contribute to the book, but he did not deny the content of the first of three days of extracts published in the Times and Sunday Times. In response to Harry's accusations, Burrell expressed his sadness, feeling dismissed and overlooked despite the years he spent with Princess Diana, acting as her confidante.

However, tensions resurfaced when Prince Harry released his memoir, "Spare," where he once again criticized Burrell for capitalizing on their mother's death. Over the course of 21 years, Paul Burrell rose from member of the Royal household staff to personal attendant to the Queen of England and then butler to the Prince and Princess of Wales. A reason for this, apart from the fact Paul’s aspirations had simply stemmed from witnessing the Changing of the Guard when he was 8, was the continuous care and promotions he received. His devotion to the job hence led to him joining the Prince and Princess of Wales’ household at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire as a butler — a post he held for the latter until her 1997 demise. Therefore, for his reported unfailing, unwavering 21 years of service as a member of the Royal personal staff, he was decorated with the Royal Victorian Medal by the Queen in November 1997. Where is Paul Burrell Now? Until now, it had been widely believed that the brothers had not spoken to Burrell since their mother's funeral.During the meeting, William and Harry sought clarification on various aspects of Princess Diana's life, hoping that Burrell could shed light on their memories and provide a deeper understanding of their mother's experiences.

The meeting, which took place in 2017 at Kensington Palace, occurred just a week before Prince Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle. He said: "(Harry) has discarded me, but he hasn't thought about all of those years that I spent with his mother, in private, loving her, caring for her, watching out for her. Trying to educate them and say, 'It's not easy for anyone marrying into this family and I'm concerned about you'.

But Meghan soon found found out when she married into the family that she would come up against the grey suits, which Princess Diana found, and they're the people that run the other households within the Royal family. In the book, Harry described how he discovered Burrell's tell-all while in Australia at the age of 19, which left him infuriated. In 2003, he published his autobiography, A Royal Duty, which included his personal account of his Royal service and his close friendship with the late princess, who was arguably one of the world’s most popular and beloved public figures. Paul Burrell, former butler to Princess Diana, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday where he spoke to hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard. It was in 2003 that Paul published his autobiography ‘A Royal Duty,’ which charted not only his private accounts of the Royal households/family but also his connection with the late princess. As if that’s not enough, it even included the specifics of the 2002 court case against him on theft charges in connection with stealing from his friend, along with the way Her Majesty saved him. The former butler had insisted he had over 300 of Princess Diana’s possessions just for long-term safekeeping, and that’s the undeniably essential detail the Queen eventually corroborated. It's likely that William and Harry did know about this book and turned a blind eye to that," he stated.
