As a viewer, you are constantly pulled between sighing over the sweetness of their dynamic and longing for it to finally become “real.” It’s a state of delighted tenterhooks. This movie lets its stars be true partners in crime if zac wasn’t going through a divorce & it was just a breakup, rather than having crazy stalker connor and instead just having a miscommunication arc, i would have loved this book sm more. it literally could have just been zac & hannah but jus w escalation towards more misunderstandings and jealousy 🧍♂️ Fake dating was beloved of teen movies during the genre’s golden age in the late ’90s — think Drive Me Crazy, She’s All That, and 10 Things I Hate About You — but since the death of the romantic comedy, it’s mostly become a marker for parody. In this decade, when a TV show has done an episode satirizing rom-com tropes, the way Community or Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 did over the course of their runs, those episodes have usually involved signposting a fake relationship. (“Wanna pretend you’re just going out with me on a bet?” asked Abed’s manic pixie dream girl love interest.) Okay so this book wasn’t really for me I loved the concept of it and had high hopes (dragged in by another reel🥴) it all just felt a bit too fast paced, and the gang part was kinda meh… Verena and Adrian were enjoyable. I actually have no complaints about Adrian, which honestly is rare with MMCs.

Coviluted yet predictable storyline - Faking dating someone to make the guy you're fake dating jealous. Okay I haven't read that before but it was kind of sloppy. Is it too early to say I’m inlove with this book? Well I’m saying it anyway. I love the characters in this book, Zac is such an ideal boyfriend like where can I find him, like I need him in my life seriously❤️🔥. Mina is such a bubbly character. I love her character too, these couple compliment each other so well. They found the love they need and deserve in each other💝. The writer did so great in this book, I love her writing style, it is such a easy read. I applaud skyla summers as this is only her second book out and she did such a good job in this book and in her first book👏💘. The chemistry between characters was there, this is such a fun, light, flirty romance book. I would totally recommend it🫶. I cringed so bad while reading any detail about the gang stuff. Like, I guess it's a good idea but if you're gonna write it, write it properly.

it’s coming out on January 24, 2023 so better look out for it. Would highly recommend it. Still thinking on how good the book is and how I love it💗 can’t wait for Jordan’s story🫣 these two have some super cute moments and hella hot ones too. There is obviously chemistry there from the start. I just felt the way it was written it seemed like it all happened over a week or two.

It's obvious that the author tried to make her and Mina have the tiktok personality but it's just bad. Thats probably one of things I cringed for the most. For example: Jake - A but farfetched for Verena's ex-boyfriend to be at this wedding. He just happens to he dating a friend of her future SIL that lives in Alaska when he lives in NY? I don't buy it. Accordingly, To All the Boys contains scene after scene of Lara Jean and Peter sharing their deepest hopes and dreams and desires with one another, and then reminding each other that their relationship is, of course, fake. “I could write you notes,” Peter says, gazing adoringly at Lara Jean, before he tells her that he’s only doing it to make his ex jealous. Lara Jean explains that she has issues with intimacy because of the death of her mother, before brightly pointing out that she doesn’t have to worry about that with Peter because “we’re just pretending.” Mina has dreamed of being a Broadway star for as long as she can remember, but never did she suspect her debut would involve starring alongside the famous and handsome Zac Delavin-who is also the world's biggest jerk. Despite having a celebrity crush on Zac, Mina can't stand to be around him. Then Adrian and verena finally sort of got together with the whole fake dating and then Darius appears. And verena finds it a good idea to let Adrian think that she sleeps with Darius, which she doesn’t. And then she is wondering why Adrian has the GODDAMN NERVE to say that he has lunch with his ex, but verena is just so conveniently forgetting that she is rubbing Darius in his face, like wtf was Adrian supposed to do when nobody tells him that it isn’t true. And miss verena is then mad at Adrian for not telling her his feelings. Like girl why you sending mixed signals. Fake dating is the have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too of romantic tropes. It grants audiences all the satisfaction of seeing the central couple in an established, domestic relationship, but it doesn’t deflate the will they/won’t they tension because you are always waiting for the two fake lovers to realize that they’re actually really in love. It’s a trope that lends itself equally well to both fluff and angst. Instead, it takes it as read that you will enjoy the fake dating trope, because after all, the fake dating trope is a storytelling framework that has been engineered for decades to be satisfying. It takes it as read that you are going to enjoy watching two nice, kind, attractive people fall in love, because who wouldn’t? And it takes it as read that the story it is telling is valuable and worthwhile, and that you are not simple-minded or uncultured if you get something out of it. With any trope so old and so well-known, the temptation to wink at it and subvert it is always present. But To All the Boys leaned into its fake dating premise with utter and relentless sincerity. In doing so, it created a kind of road map for how to get the most out of old romantic tropes without sliding into the trap of easy cynicism.
