So what’s the bottom line? This Seiko Automatic watch is an outstanding choice for an entry-level unit. It has its downsides including the durability, precision, and most notoriously—that green strap. However, we think it’s worth swapping in a new band so you can keep all the watch’s perks. The timepiece is automatic. It comes with the 7S26 movement. We met the mechanism in its brother’s review, but in case you forgot, there are 21 jewels and a 41-hour power reserve. It’s been reported that it can last 43 hours, though. The Seiko 5 is one of the most popular automatic watches in this price range. But once you look at the specifications and what it offers for a price of less than a hundred dollars, you can see why. Overall the SNK805 has a clean, made-for-purpose appearance, will stand up to years of use, and is the perfect daily driver for anyone who needs a simple – yet elegant – automatic watch. This automatic watch gets is power from your arm movements rather than batteries. All you have to do to keep the watch running is to wear it 8+ hours/day. This can save you a ton of money you’d normally spend on watch batteries, which usually end up in landfills. What is the water-resistant depth?

In terms of proportions, there is really nothing to complain about here. On the outer edge of the dial, you can find small dots at each five-minute marking. These are lame dots that glow in the dark and help improve the legibility of the watch in low-lit conditions. From the beginning Seiko watches were well-made, and considered good quality pieces, but they didn't stand out in store displays as much as their Swiss competitors – at least in places where the Japanese timepieces were available. The circles and printed numbers on the dial are reminiscent of pilot watches. This, again, goes very well together with the military style. Seiko 5 SNK805 caseEvery detail speaks to something more meticulous, from the polishing to the dial texture to the movement within. It's more than a white-dial sports watch; it's a collection of stories that watch collectors will appreciate

Seiko 5 watches ACTUALLY worse? – Old vs New Are the new Seiko 5 watches ACTUALLY worse? – Old vs New

The Seiko 5 snk805 Automatic watch is powered by Seiko’s 7S26B movement. This is an automatic movement equipped with a rotor. According to specifications, the movement has an error of -35 +/45 seconds per day. Now, this is not COSC performance by any means, but let’s not forget that this watch costs less than 100 USD. With that said, this is only accuracy acceptance, which means it may perform better than this (and people have reported it does). Printed on the dial are markings that have been broken into two rings. The outer ring of the dial indicates minutes and the inner dial indicates hours. To avoid optical distortion, all cases and dials were to be mirror-finished (aka Zaratsu polishing) There’s a calendar on it. It reads the day as well as the date. Something neat about it is that the day and date are in contrasting colours. It looks like a standard field watch. It has a wide dial, with a thin silver case. It also has large Arabic numerals. One of the reasons it looks so rugged is its strap. It’s made from Nylon. It doesn’t scream luxury. But the SNK805 is a field watch, so the material is what you want. It’s very durable. Both the minute and hour hands are sword shaped. They help the watch to be both easy to read at a distance, and also allow precise timekeeping if needed. This watch includes a window made of mineral crystal. It’s scratch/impact-resistant and is used most off in the watchmaking industry. Its dial is dark green while its hour markers are white. The contrast lets you read them easily. The watch has 2 rings marking the hours passed. One of them reads the time in a 24-hour format while the other reads it in a 12-hour standard. Having military time available is expected as field watches were made for soliders.

In all likelihood, watches like this will be rare and unavailable to all but the most knowledgeable collectors in a few short years. For example, let’s say you don’t need to wear your watch one day for whatever reason. You can keep it wound up by storing it on the auto watch winder. The timepiece can then be used whenever you’re ready. The automatic watch winder is a “charging station” of sorts. In between times, you wear the watch you can store the timepiece in the storage unit. This keeps the watch ready to wear since it stays fully wound. By late 1950s, the watch industry witnessed Seiko’s renowned developments on chronometer calibers like the iconic cal. 6139 chronograph movement and several other breakthrough technologies.

The dial of the watch is slightly matte (sandblasted), which provides a nice texture and of course prevents glare and reflections, which ultimately improves legibility. The sandblasted finish of the dial adds to the tool-like personality of the watch and also goes well together with the matte case (more on that later) The case of the Seiko 5 SNK805 has a rugged look thanks to its matte finish. Would the case be polished, it would lose a lot of its tool-like character and appear more like a classy everyday watch. A good choice by Seiko. The sides, on the other hand, are polished, which creates a nice contrast, and gives the watch a greater perception of quality and being well-finished. On the dial, the marks have been separated into two rings and printed. The outer ring of the dial indicates minutes, and the inner ring hours – once again reminding us of a pilot's watch. Regarding the looks of the Timex MK1 Mechanical, it has a classic ‘60s to ‘80s military vibe. In my view, this more faithful look makes it a little less versatile than the Seiko. It’s more casual and tool-looking, but I don’t think that would stop me from wearing it wherever during the Summer. Like the SNK805, the Timex also uses a two-piece 18mm nylon strap. With the MK1, though, there’s a nice stripe down the center that feels like a classy touch. The strap is also seriously comfortable, and I see no reason to swap it out for something else.

Conclusion

Just like its brother, there are rings that tell the time. One of them reads the minutes in an hour while the other reads the hours in a day.
