About this deal

It’s heroic on a Warhammer scale, but also truly sad. It’s cosmic in scope, but also intensely personal. After 18 months of writing, with the amazing support of the editorial team and my fellow Heresy writers, it is – I hope – a fitting end to the series. It’s certainly the best ending I could deliver. It was Sanguinius who reached his brother Horus first. The Warmaster attempted to turn the Blood Angels' Primarch, his oldest and closest friend among the other Primarchs, to Chaos one last time.

The Emperor and Horus engaged one another in the throne room of the massive battle barge, a battle that was both physical and psychic in nature. Though the Emperor's psychic gifts and martial skills were unequalled, He found himself unwilling to summon his full strength against His beloved son.Upon discovering the shields of the Vengeful Spirit down, Malcador the Sigillite alerted the Emperor, still struggling to keep the Golden Throne and its adjoining Webway Gate stable. Upon learning of the news, the Emperor knew it was time to act and end Horus, even though he was certain it was a trap. Rogal Dorn, Sanguinius, Vulkan, and Valdor were all called to his side for the coming battle, and all objected to the Emperor's plan to personally teleport aboard the Vengeful Spirit. [24f] However the Emperor overruled his sons, commanding Valdor and Dorn to come with him while Sanguinius took control of loyalist forces on Terra and Vulkan stay behind to oversee the potential failsafe on the Golden Throne. [24g] Sanguinius flatly objected to his fathers request to stay behind, telling the Emperor of his prophetic death at Horus' hands and his intention to defy fate by defeating his traitorous brother instead. This was enough to move the Emperor to change his mind. Four company's were organized for the assault: the Hetaeron Guard led by the Emperor, another Custodes company under Valdor, a mixed force of Sanguinary Guard and Blood Angels 1st Company under Sanguinius and Raldoron, and Huscarls under Dorn and Diamantis. The operation was codenamed Anabasis. [24h] Malcador took his place upon the Golden Throne in the Emperor's place, an act that would cost him his life. For that, The Emperor renamed Malcador the Sigillite to Malcador the Hero. [24i] Devastated by the Space Wolves' destruction of his Legion's precious storehouses of knowledge about the Immaterium and sorcery in their lost Prosperine capital city of Tizca, and having turned to the Chaos God Tzeentch to save himself and his Astartes Legion, Magnus pledged his allegiance and the allegiance of the Thousand Sons Legion to Horus and Chaos in retaliation against the Emperor for this betrayal. The Thousand Sons were en route to Terra where they would link up with Horus' forces.

But the Castellan of Terra knew that his forces were too few to do more than slow the ultimate Traitor victory. All they could do was buy enough time for Loyalist reinforcements to reach the Throneworld. The siege of Terra by the Traitor forces of Horus began on the thirteenth day of Secundus with an orbital bombardment by the Warmaster's fleet as the prelude to a ground invasion. There’s no substitute for experiencing the Siege of Terra series yourself because it’s a tale of such epic proportions, but before we reveal the final chapter in this story, let’s briefly catch up on the story so far. Three full Titan Legions of the Mechanicum and close to two million soldiers of the Imperialis Auxilia stood alongside them to face the Traitors in a battle that would determine the fate of Mankind for the next 10,000 years. All the loyalists are on their last legs. The World Eaters' minds are fraying completely and everything is building to the confrontation between a demi-god and daemon prince. Yet amongst the dust and slaughter, there’s a tenderness here – whether that’s an Astartes realizing that he’s not shown the appreciation for the thralls that have loyally served him, or an egotistical genius showing some affection to a skitari.Nevertheless, Horus lowered the void shields of his great vessel, the Gloriana-class Battleship Vengeful Spirit. The lowering of these shields was detected by the Loyalist vessels in orbit and the information was relayed to the Imperial Palace. Siege of Terra: The Horus Heresy (7 book series) Kindle Edition

The Emperor of Mankind rose to the challenge, leading his elite personal guard, the Adeptus Custodes, the Primarchs Sanguinius and Rogal Dorn, and several companies of Imperial Fists and Blood Angels Veteran Space Marines in the assault and teleported aboard the Vengeful Spirit. What happened next is disputed in the Imperial historiography of the Horus Heresy; some believe Horus disabled his void shields as he experienced one last moment of regret for his betrayal of his father and his turn to Chaos, while others believe it was a personal challenge to the Emperor. The myriad battles of the Siege of Terra series are pulling into a taut weave of tension, horror, and certain doom. Just when you thought it was bad, it gets worse. So all we had to do was make it all work, make it coherent, make it fit together, fill in those gaps, and do justice to the well-known sections. You can’t let readers down by changing things, or by not giving them what they quite rightly expect to see. But readers also want to be surprised and to learn things they didn’t know. That’s a lot of hours spent planning, debating, arguing, inventing… I suppose what I’m saying is that we all knew it was a major project that would take years to complete, and we were all determined to stay the course and get it done. On the other hand, it seems genuinely unreal to finally be reaching the end. In the original lore, Lorgar himself led the Word Bearers on Terra. [Needs Citation] However as of the events of the novel Slaves to Darkness, Lorgar is banished from Horus' sight for attempting to usurp him and instead the Word Bearers at Terra were led by Zardu Layak. [4] The Siege of Terra will detail the final events of the Horus Heresy, most notably the eponymous Siege of Terra and the final duel between Horus Lupercal and the Emperor of Mankind. Following the Battle of Beta-Garmon, which represented the last major Loyalist resistance beyond Terra, the door to the Sol System had been opened wide. Horus finally mustered his forces on Ullanor Prime after almost a solar decade of war. They included the Sons of Horus, World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Thousand Sons, Death Guard, and Iron Warriors, each commanded by their respective Primarchs. Ancient map depicting the disposition of both Traitor and Loyalist forces around the Imperial Palace at the start of the Siege of Terra. Fury of Magnus is the second novella in The Siege of Terra series and is written by Graham McNeill. Of all the Emperor's sons who fell to Chaos, it is perhaps Magnus the Red whose tale is the most tragic. Sanctioned because of his desire for knowledge, chastised, judged, and shattered to his very elements -- there is much for the Crimson King to feel vengeful for. Yet revenge is not the only thing that draws him to Terra alongside the Warmaster Horus' besieging armies. He seeks something, a fragment, the missing piece of himself that lies within the most impregnable place on the planet -- the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace. As the greatest conflict of the ages reaches fever pitch, Magnus fights his own inner battle. To be whole once more, he must not only overcome the fiercest of defences, but also face the one being whom he loves and hates with equal fervour more than any other -- his errant father, the Emperor of Mankind. At that moment, a lone Loyalist warrior entered the bridge, just as the Emperor fell. Horus, gloating in victory, showed the Imperial warrior the Emperor's broken form and laughed, taunting the Loyalist's uselessness and defeat. The valiant Imperial warrior, far from being daunted, roared in defiance and interposed himself between the Emperor and the Warmaster, heroically holding the line against the Chaos-corrupted Primarch. He was flayed alive for his defiance by a glancing psychic blast from Horus.

Yet, for all its terrible and growing flaws over the next ten millennia, the Imperium would also offer humanity its best and perhaps only hope for survival in an uncaring and increasingly hostile universe. The Blood Angels finally shine, if in a tragic and dark way. I want more from ADB on the Revenant Legion. The same characters we have been following (including the Howl of the Hearthworld) have their stories wrapped up, or some probably wished it was wrapped up.
