A successful restaurateur in Damascus, he was forced to flee Syria after his restaurants were destroyed in the war. The first event took place in the famous Columbia Road London and has since captured the minds of school children, professionals and chefs all over the world. It's Tuesday and all day long enthusiastic students will be selling muffins, cake and Turkish delicacies. As Syrian and Middle Eastern inspired recipes flooded in, it made sense to share these beyond social media and in the form of a beautiful not for profit recipe book! Having been covered by 127 local and national media outlets including the Daily Mail, ITV and BT News, The Cake Campaign has reached incredible successes and just keeps on growing!

The Cake Campaign aims to deliver delicious chocolate fudge cakes to people’s doors during Ramadan, a month when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and give generously to charity as they remember those less fortunate than themselves. The speed at which these initiatives can come together – and how much support they can rely on in a short space of time – is especially evident with a charity bake sale to raise funds for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Syrian-inspired recipes lovingly donated by celebrity chefs, Great British Bake Off alumni and award winning cookbook authors. From 12pm-4pm on 26 February, hospitality figureheads including Melissa Thompson, Ravneet Gill, Ixta Belfrage and Melek Erdal will be hosting a bake sale and raffle at Holloway Model Bakery in North London – the location having been kindly donated by the bakery's owner Michelle Eshkeri. The USC is raising moneyfor the Red Cross and is holding a spinning marathon at the sports café on 15 February. We will always treat your personal information with the utmost care and will keep it private (read our privacy policy). The organisers reiterated that all the money raised through the bake sale will reach the victims of the earthquakes directly.
