About this deal

I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with the Alton family, especially the four children - Toby, Amber, Kitty and Barney. As an adult her love of reading has only increased and she can always be found with her head in a book. I’m thrilled and amazed by this book, which tells the story of four children living an ideal life in 1968, until tragedy strikes.

Thick grey woodsmoke curls up the huge chimney before changing its mind and rolling slowly back into the room like a sea fog. She is filled with joie de vivre and wants the same for the twins, 14 year old Amber and Toby, 5 year old Barney, and 4 year old Kitty. But as she's drawn deeper into the overgrown grounds, half-buried memories of her mother begin to surface and Lorna soon finds herself ensnared within the manor's labyrinthine history, overcome with an insatiable need for answers about her own past and that of the once-happy family whose memory still haunts the estate. She is a young girl that is desperately trying to keep her family together, but at the same time, she is on the verge of womanhood and sometimes actions can have dire consequences.

on Goodreads, with some commenting that the storyline in the ‘60s is stronger than the modern storyline. Black Rabbit Hall by Eve Chase is the spellbinding, lusciously-written story of two families twined together across the span of time, trapped in limbo in a magical, sea-swept Cornwall house with secrets as deep as its Normandy roots. It's got it all, a lady of the house as crumbling as the bricks themselves, a mysterious maid, love, tragedy, evil and a strong heroine trying to make sense of it all. Amber at 14 years of age is a twin to Toby who seems to have the world on his shoulder with dark moods and a depressing outlook on life. A lifelong bookworm, she aims to provide readers with literary inspiration in the form of book reviews, reading lists and more.

The family is never the same – partly due to their mother’s death – partly due to the advent of Caroline (the very epitome of the wicked stepmother) and her college age son, Lucien. It is 1968 and Nancy Alton is the perfect mother to her four children; she is kind, beautiful, smart and athletic. BookBrowse seeks out and recommends the best in contemporary fiction and nonfiction—books that not only engage and entertain but also deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Indeed, Amber and her twin brother, Toby, often felt a bit like intruders when their parents kissed. The grounds of Black Rabbit Hall (In Eve Chase's eponymously named novel) are depicted as lush and untamed, a state of wildness that could be the site of enchantment or of danger.

Perhaps she would have total success, but the fact of the matter is that Jack feels the same deep connection to Laurie. But as she’s drawn deeper into the overgrown grounds, she soon finds herself ensnared within the house’s labyrinthine history, overcome with a need for answers about her own past and that of the once-golden family whose memory still haunts the estate. The holidays are here, and in Salcombe, Liz longs for the arrival of her god-daughters, Skye and Clare and Clare's daughter baby Ivy. For fans of Kate Morton and Daphne du Maurier, Black Rabbit Hallis an obvious must-read, but it is sure to please any reader who delights in devilishly thrilling dramas. The story is woven between generations, the first being the Alton family in 1968 and present-day Lorna who is looking for a venue . She is intrigued to know what happened to the family who lived there over three decades ago and is curious about the pull she feels when she is there.

The basic set up here is that you have the Altons: owners of a rambly pile in Cornwall, the traditionally English father fell in love with a warm-hearted American heiress, because don’t they always.A gorgeously written novel describing the love and affection that hold families together and the powerful forces that can tear them apart. For readers who are interested in complex period drama such as Daisy Goodwin’s The American Heiress, or who enjoy a touch of the gothic such as in Daphne du Maurier’s Rebeccaor Diane Setterfield’s The Thirteenth Tale. Vacations spent at Black Rabbit Hall—a magical place where slates flying off the roof don’t matter because the stars shine more brightly near the stormy sea—were the highlight of the children’s lives. The lovely and isolated setting of Cornwall is a fitting backdrop to tell the history of the Alton children.
