When it comes to the CP model, it isn’t just Yamaha’s history that’s been re-imagined but that of several other electric piano makers too.The way I see it it really doesn’t matter, lots of critics are paid in some way to review any product. It's big enough to hold the Reface CP, the 12volt power supply, MIDI cable and a small sustain pedal. This is a bit of an anti-climax compared to the rest of the range and, annoyingly, even when the effect depth is at zero, switching to effects causes a brief silence.

The Reface YC captures the sass and swagger of both rock ’n’ soul tonewheels and new-wavey transistors with equal aplomb. The thing I notice most is when you play a complex chord all of the notes come through without turning into mush. For the traditionalist, the organ and electric piano models are great little units that are awesome for stage and studio, and for the synth junkies and knob-tweakers, you’ve got two boards that will let you adjust and manipulate until the early hours of dawn.

The YC has five organ models: a Hammond B-3, a Yamaha YC-45D, an Ace Tone organ, a Vox organ and a Farfisa organ. Tracks like Orbital’s “Halcyon and On” were grounded by the DX-100’s “Solid Bass” preset, and that’s just one example out of thousands. Performing on YC’s mini keys was a better experience than on the CP, perhaps due to the nature of organ versus piano playing.
