About this deal

Distillation technology wasn’t up to much in the 18th century and flavours were needed to mask imperfections in the spirit.

One of the things which makes Tanqueray 10 unique is that it uses fresh whole citrus rather than dried citrus peels. This is because it impresses with a combination of increased alcohol content (more than rival Hendricks, intense aromas and a captivating lightness. It is best enjoyed with premium tonic water, plenty of ice and a wedge of pink grapefruit or with dry vermouth and a twist of pink grapefruit in a perfect martini.

Later years' competitions saw Tanqueray win a string of silver medals and then another double gold in 2012.

There is a misconception that Tanqueray 10 gets its name from the number of botanicals in the mix; in fact, the recipe for Tanqueray 10 has all four of the base botanicals from Tanqueray London Dry: juniper, coriander, angelica, and licorice. While the Tanqueray recipe is a closely guarded trade secret, it is known to contain four botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice, all common botanicals in gin productions overall. The “ten,” however, is actually owed to the mighty little piece of machinery that produced the first batch of this iconic gin.

Tanqueray Sterling Vodka was introduced in 1989 and is available in both neutral and citrus flavours. The only building to survive the Axis bombing, now known as "Old Tom", has since been moved to Cameron Bridge, Scotland. Part of this movement came as a reaction to a new generation of drinkers who had grown up with a distaste for the strong juniper in gin, and another was as a response to the incubatory phase of the now explosive craft cocktail revolution.

In accordance with a report by The Spirits Business, Tanqueray was the highest selling gin in the world for 2016, with nearly three million nine-litre cases sold.

Thanks to a balanced flavor profile that marries floral and herbal, this gin was engineered to be the core of a perfect Martini. It’s in the midpalate where the more rooty elements in the gin emerge with angelica root and licorice, and we really get a sense of the level of alcohol. However, the time had come for a different flavor profile, a different feel — less woodsy, more fruit, with a silky mouthfeel, and above all, freshness. Tanqueray 10 adds an additional four elements to the mix, including fresh white grapefruit, fresh lime, fresh orange, and camomile flowers for a total of 8 botanicals. Others contend that it’s an ode to the metric system, or a perfect rating (this option is persuasive). Right out of the gate the juniper pine note from the nose is there on the palate along with light citrus, black pepper, and coriander.
