White children go to fine brick, stone and marble schools nine months a year while we go to a ramshackle old barn-like building only five-and-ahalf months, then to the cotton fields. It was part of the reading list for an organization I had joined named the Eye of Ra African Sorority and Fraternity. He has also highlighted through the ages, since 6500 years ago that we have been conquered, debased and written out of history, time and time and time again because of our lack of unity. It was very hard to listen to this overly eager white man read this book like he was giving an unpracticed book report. We build and maintain all our own systems, but we don’t charge for access, sell user information, or run ads.

I am so grateful for our great Afrikan historians who found the truth, thoroughly uncovered and recorded it, thus giving myself and others a deeply profound point of view. The book is premised on the question: ""If the Blacks were among the very first builders of civilization and their land the birthplace of civilization, what has happened to them that has left them since then, at the bottom of world society, precisely what happened? From allowing minority non-African populations to marry into power, to trying to unite and integrate with these populations, Williams contrasts Africans with non-Africans by arguing that the latter had a long term vision for the future that the former lacked.Chancellor Williams dedicated this book to the youth of the 1960s for beginning the Second Great Emancipation — the liberation of our minds, thus changing the course of history. In doing so, Williams’ hostility toward non-African people, as well as people with mixed African and non African ancestry (“Mulattoes”), is clear and ever-present. At that time, his focus was on African achievements and the many self-ruling civilizations that had arisen and operated on the continent long before the coming of Europeans or East Asians. The Destruction of Black Civilization provides the blue print and the analysis from which the African Diaspora may reach and find the strength for positive self development.

The former did not reduce entire conquered populations into slavery, did not destroy Indigenous political, cultural and social institutions, and did not upset the basic mode of land ownership among the people. I thought it was just my phone but reading the reviews, I now know that Audible or whoever was in charge of editing this book didn't care to do so. I think that Chancellor Williams has a lot to say here, that also could have justified its own book. The author in these ways (and others even more subtle) fetisheizes civilization as a social form as opposed to examining it as one form among many in a more disinterested, and less teleological way. It was largely because of these works that, at the World Festival of the Arts held in Dakar in 1966, Dr. questions which none seemed able to answer :How is it that white folks have everything and we have nothing?
