FAST SETUP WITH SKYALIGN: Celestron’s proprietary SkyAlign procedure has you ready to observe in minutes. Center any 3 bright objects in the eyepiece and the NexStar SLT aligns to the night sky, ready to locate thousands of objects. Excellent first scope! You might want a 2X or 2.5X barlow that will double or so the power of each eyepiece. Now, let’s talk about using the telescope. Firstly, you should align the finderscope to the telescope’s axis. Then add 8 AA batteries to the mount and power on the telescope. I don’t want to make it seem like the 127 SLT is simplistic by any means, as it’s capable of quite a lot and shares many of the same features that are found in the 130 SLT. At f/5, there is some coma, and many inexpensive eyepieces will gradually lose sharpness toward the edge of the field. Collimation accuracy is also rather important, but it’s not that difficult to get an f/5 Newtonian collimated with even the most basic collimation cap—or a bright star. Included Eyepieces and Red Dot Finder

The Celestron NexStar SLT mount is a pretty simple, inexpensive alt-azimuth mount that moves up and down, left-to-right. To use it, you enter the time, date, and your location, then sight the telescope on any two or three bright stars. The mount can then map out the rest of the sky and point the telescope at any object of your choosing. This is fairly standard for most GoTo mounts. The SLT mount uses a Vixen dovetail saddle, so you can easily swap in other telescopes with Vixen dovetail bars if you wish, provided they don’t exceed the SLT mount’s capacity or crash into the base. Bear in mind therefore that the following relates to the azimuth axis setup of the GT models (predecessors of the SLT) the text runs as follows : Compatible with optional NexRemote telescope control software, for advanced control of your telescope via computer Larry, glad to hear that the vibration problem settles down... the various little problems, including the sandbag in Ian's picture, really has made me shy away from the scope, although the potential 4 degree rich field views still intrigue. A light-efficient telescope like the NexStar 130 SLT with a relatively large aperture and multi-coated surfaces will give you brighter views of night sky objects. Furthermore, the images will have higher contrast. You’ll be able to see more details.A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT features a 130mm primary mirror, a fully computerized altazimuth mount, a red dot finderscope, and a 25mm eyepiece. It also comes with a database of over 4,000 celestial objects. Q: Is the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT suitable for beginners? Hey Lee, I’ve been struggling to view planets with this scope but I’m only at this hobby for a few months now. The only thing I can successfully view is the moon so far. When I try to view Mars, I see the outline of the secondary mirror obstructing the view of the planet. (I understand Mars is not the best planet to be viewing right now..but besides this fact, I can not wrap my head around how to solve this..any help would be greatly appreciated! Reply The Sky-Watcher Virtuoso GTi 130P features the same optics as the 130SLT but in a collapsible tube with a dual manual/GoTo tabletop Dobsonian mount which is controlled with an app on your smartphone or tablet. The Virtuoso GTi 130P is available in a manual format, the Heritage 130P, as with the 150P from Sky-Watcher. That "130" refers to the aperture ("opening") expressed in millimeters. This model is a recent upgrade from a smaller 114mm Celestron. It’s now more than 5 inches. Aperture is nearly everything in telescopes; more photons reach your eye, camera or spectroscope. And the more starlight you grab, the more illuminated your understanding of the cosmos. Optics: It’s worth noting that the supplied eyepieces may benefit from upgrading for the optimal viewing experience, and the focuser may require some adjustment due to its design.
