I was hooked from the first few pages, with the haunting prologue and the shocking, intriguing first chapter. From this pulse-quickening beginning the story does not let up any of its pace until the final page if turned. The two immersive storylines bring to life the trials and frustrations each main character faces in this debut, which is a thrilling delight right up to the unexpected and bittersweet conclusion. There are scenes that you can just hear and feel these scary little Charlotte dolls coming into you own home and into your dreams!

I wasn’t really sure about which one was the strangest, but they certainly had some strange ideas, even the one that was dead! But some of the dialogue was a bit weird, it seemed overly proper and stilted, and every character talked exactly the same. This is the perfect time of year to read this book if you're interested in a spine-tingling, bone-chilling, good ol' classic horror tale!

This was such a genuinely creepy YA horror, I loved that there were some really scary moments in there that weren't watered down for a teen audience. Fast paced, Frozen Charlotte will keep you turning the pages once you get into the story, because once you start, you'll need to know what's actually going on. I believe this is the scene that would stick in most people’s memory due to the huge plot twist that is shown during the scene. But while of the characters in the story were just as well written as Sophie and Rebecca but a few of them like Sophie’s supposedly best friend, Jay, was not given much time to develop.Needless to say I absolutely loved it and read the whole thing from cover to cover in one sitting (no, not just because I was too scared to move). I’ve never been more grateful that I don’t have a load of dolls in my bedroom or I probably wouldn’t have slept since reading this book. Although the child is dead, my favourite character in this story is Rebecca due to the way her behaviour is portrayed.

After reading this, don’t forget tomorrow to check out the other reviews posted as part of Patti Abbott’s Friday’s Forgotten Books meme over at her fab Pattinase blog. It was so fast paced, and well written that it made me think that Bell had written tons of 'Creepy doll horror books', and this is one of the best that I have ever read.My mouth dropped a few times, since this was YA and the style of writing almost read like an older middle-grade. So, Sophie is going to visit and comfort her cousins, Cameron, Piper, and the weird little Lilias, (who has the most weird obsession and fear of her bones! I raced through the book as Sophie went to visit her Uncle and cousins in Scotland at the creepy schoolhouse. The story is narrated by Sophie, who goes to stay with her step-cousins on the Isle of Skye for the summer.

She’s sensible but determined, and the more realistic elements of her life mixed in with supernatural elements of the Frozen Charlottes gives the book an eerie touch. There were a few scenes in the book where I did actually find myself lifting my feet from the floor so that I wouldn’t imagine a freezing cold hand reaching out to my ankle. When Rebecca finally reaches the cliff edge, Piper kicked her sister in the face and threw snowballs at Rebecca causing her to fall. Jackson’s debut is well-executed and surprises readers with a connective web of interesting characters and motives. Once the classic horror conventions have been set up – big, old isolated house with a suspicious past, troubled family members, both dead and alive, and the aforementioned ghost, the story gets going at a fast pace, which is the reason it’s so easy to read. When Sophie discovers that the house used to be a girl's boarding school, she notices a cabinet full of 'Frozen Charlotte' dolls in one of the bedrooms. Determined to find out exactly what happened to both Rebecca and Jay, Sophie goes off to stay with her uncle and surviving cousins on the remote island of Skye.
