Having missed out on the previous Harbour offerings, I was looking forward finally to getting my hands on LEGO's latest seaport diorama.

This is an accusation I often heard leveled against BIONICLE sets back when I was extremely active in that community. Once the difficulty of grabbing the bricks in the first place is overcome, the process runs smoothly and works surprisingly well. Like you imagined, the ship floats and has underneath the hull the spot to attach an electric motor (not included in the set).

Now that the whole set is assemebled, we can have a good look at the main play feature of the set in action. Bags 2 and 3 contain the most pieces, and come together to form the rather colourful harbourside structures. He recently turned 9 and has gotten to the point where he is building pretty much everything independently (much to the chagrin of my hubby who likes to build too).But people were able to build Lego sets for decades using instruction manuals with less luxuries than modern day ones. Only the farmer torso, seen before in the Farm range ( 7634 Tractor to be precise), has any back printing. However, something that's often ignored is that not everyone has the sort of thinking patterns that make LEGO building so easy. Yellow handle-tiles demarcate the holds, and apparent here is the open bridge, exposed on the sides to North Sea gales *shiver*. Yes, it was a Technic build and thus arguably more advanced than a City set, but these were kids well within the Technic age range.
