A nice thing for me was that he had a boyfriend, Anselm, that was mentioned and talked about. Their relationship and how it ended just seemed so believable, so truthful. I really enjoyed Sister Rapture as Ghastly's love interest; we needed a love interest in this book, we really did. Ghastly also proves himself a wonderful and caring friend, especially to Skulduggery, and some of his words hit me so hard. Landy is an established horror writer, and the combats between Skulduggery, Serpine and his legions of Hollow Men and vampires rival the climaxes of the Potter films for hair-raising effects; it isn't often that writing makes you feel as if you are watching a film. [46] This story wasn't what I expected, while simultaneously being precisely what I should have seen coming. Once it gets into the swing of things, it's the classic action-adventure I fell in love with as a child, alongside the good old-fashioned drama and comedy that my adult self appreciates even more so.
