There is also plenty of room for the dregs of a decrepit mining ship trying to stay alive while bumbling around the void from accident to accident. The crew of Red Dwarf are as iconic as any entry here. They’re all brilliantly evocative roleplaying touchstones, but Stargrave rarely, if ever, gives time to leverage them. True RPGs have the benefit of providing non-combat situations, plunking you in the boots of your character to really exploreand experience the imagined world around you. But even miniature wargames with less direct RPG mechanisms, like Warhammer 40k, are more successful in imbuing each battle with a sense of place, person, and persona through their bespoke miniatures. If you are like me, what interested me the most about the preview images is the plastic sprues. What do they look like? What can I make with the Stargrave Crew plastic frames?

A well armed soldier with a basic amount of training. They carry Carbines, have Heavy Armour and carry a knife too. Is stargrave basically a stand alone game system a bit like warriors of erewhon? In case you've not played Frostgrave, the fantasy predecessor to Stargrave, Stargrave is a minis agnostic skirmish game. There are official minis, including 3 plastic box sets of PYO [pose your own] figures. The new plastics are compatible with the older Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago plastics. You can play one-off games but the fun in both systems is a campaign. In Frostgrave, only the Wizard gained Exp, and the Apprentice was basically an inferior copy of the Wizard. In Stargrave, you choose a Captain and First Mate; they can have the same Speciality, or different ones, and they each can gain experience. The Captain rolls to activate Powers normally, and the First Mate at a penalty. (It's a bit more detailed than that, but that will do for now.) In many games, we roll dice in to see which miniatures come in from a collection of 6 to 12 random monsters. The same could be done with Stargrave easily. I have just seen and approved the final pieces of artwork for Frostgrave: Mortal Enemies. Although aRu-Mor has been at it for awhile now, I am continually amazed by her work on the series. There is a wonderful depth to her colours, and a sense of menace in even the simplest compositions. While this is the only Frostgrave book currently on the schedule, I am in discussions with Osprey on another one.Biggest of all, the positioning of loot has been reworked to prevent players handing themselves an easy win through shrewd – and cheap – placement tactics. Players take turns positioning loot tokens after terrain setup, but may only place tokens in their opponent’s half of the table. As the name suggests. A Bounty Hunter. Basically low level muscle and rough people who live in areas where fights are likely. GW cultist, Stargrave Trooper, GW Poxwalker, Stargrave Trooper, GW GSC Magos, Stargrave Trooper, GW GSC Wargames atlantic is going to fill the kitbash hole. I find their sculpts a lot more pleasing than North Star’s. More notably, they have Death Fields and Iron-Core ranges with a few kits coming that are going to be nice fits. They also have lizardmen that are going to be great natives/ruffians.

arm swaps between Stargrave troopers and Medge Broken work fine, although hand size/sculpting is noticeably different so both arms from one kit works best (or swapping out the hand)
