The first ‘albatross’ score reported as such in the press is from South Africa when E E Wooler scored a hole-in-one in the summer of 1931 on the 18th hole of the Durban Country Club which is a par-4. In bogey competitions, the aim is to therefore better the score of bogey on as many holes as possible. You can combine this with other accumulators for various misdemeanors using the same principle: Camels for going in a bunker, Fish for hitting into water, Bears for hitting trees, Rabbits for going in the gorse or bushes and Grouse for landing in the heather. Bogey, par and Stableford competitions are forms of stroke play in which play is against a fixed score at each hole. Practice with a Purpose– Too often golfers go to the driving range to work on one thing only to discover three other things that need help. YOU STILL HAVEN'T ANSWERED THE QUESTION about how credit for those scores, if made, can be given if the player doesn't hole out and the marker record it! Meanwhile, Jim made two great shots to get on the green but his just one really bad putt was the catalyst for his bogey. One of the best golf terms around, “albatross” refers to when a player uses three fewer strokes on a hole than the par for that hole.

Collectively, the total of every hole’s par on a course is the 9 or 18-hole score that each golfer measures their score against.

Lastly, par 5’s assume the golfer will hit the ball onto the green in three shots and require two additional putts to get the ball into the hole. A competitor who breaks Rule 6-3a (Time of Starting) by showing up late, but is on the tee and ready within five minutes of his tee time, is penalized with the loss of one hole on his total. It would be natural for American golfers to think of the eagle, which is their national symbol and the term seems to have developed only shortly after the 'birdie'. Establish a Target – Pick a target to aim at on every swing, even when practicing on the driving range. and only count the ball with the higher score on each hole and see if you can play to your handicap.

Rain will drown out noise, lightening will give you quick glimpses of the room in full light, snow blizzards will make it impossible to hear much at all.

On the flip side, this helps maintain a fairly even playing field, as the odd 4/5 pointer does not risk coming into play.

Handicap wise today I have two two shot holes (hopefully not for much longer) but there is an upper limit of 18 as its a board comp so what should happen here? A Par Bogey competition is won by the player or side that has the highest number of holes won against holes lost. You can use the string to remove your ball from hazards, get it out of a difficult lie or to hole out.Like many other formats, players are encouraged to pick up when their score exceeds the fixed target and they have lost the hole. I stand by my original comments that players can't be instructed to hole out and record a score in a Bogie comp!
