Oh, I know. But—it was his idea to send Tatiana to the Adamant Citadel in the first place. If something’s gone wrong—” The book was published nearly a year later than initially planned [10] due to Covid-19 related publishing delays [11] [12] and resulting supply chain issues. [13] Jem communicates with Belial, who though he was destroyed, cannot fully be destroyed because he is a Prince of Hell. He took her arm to guide her past a broken bit of pavement. Cordelia thought of the woman at the café, how she had smiled at them, thinking them a couple in love. If only she knew that Matthew hadn’t so much as tried to kiss Cordelia once. He had been the model of a restrained gentleman. Once or twice, as they bid each other good night in the hotel suite, she had thought she caught a look in his eyes, but perhaps she was imagining it? She wasn’t entirely sure what she had expected, nor was she sure how she felt about—well, anything. Charlotte and Gideon took their leave among further reassurances. When Ariadne heard the door latch shut, she came down the stairs. Her mother, who had been standing motionless in the entryway, started when she saw her. Ariadne did her best to give the impression that she had only just arrived.

I’m not sure what I felt about the love Triangle tbh. We got this in The Infernal Devices also the Will, Tessa and Jem. However, I preferred the love triangle here. Cordelia and Matthew in Paris Cordelia Carstairs — a young Shadowhunter who believes her life is over now that she is the sworn paladin of Lilith. Part of it was older James on his deathbed, and as he lay dying seeing all of his friends who had died so horribly so long ago waiting for him on the other side, and thinking how he had never had friends again like the ones he had when he was young." Cassandra Clare on Tumblr

I have always joked in all the other books that there was some sort of love Pentagram, not a triangle, everyone was in a relationship or situation ship of some sort.

Mathew deserved better. He didn’t need the love drama. I mean my dude is running off with HIS PARABATAI’S WIFE?? His story could have gone another way and i felt it was lazy of Cassie to include him in this love triangle drama. anna took ari’s hand and looked down at it, as if she were marveling at its construction. “if we are all made up of different parts, then i am quite the chessboard.”I SOBBED. Of everyone in this series, Alastair Carstairs remains my #1 favourite TLH character. The way he’s changed so much just thinking of it gets me emotional. He learned to accept himself and believe he’s deserving of love. For so long he’s hated himself and so for this journey of his self-hatred to turn into self-love.. I cannot deal with the emotions, Im beyond happy. HIM EASILY BEING ABLE TO EXPRESS HIS LOVE WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD STOP MY HEART CANT HANDLE THIS. Thomastair was really the only ship Id say that was done justice out of everyone in this series. The half-burnt fire message was hilarious bye “Dear Alastair, Why are you so stupid I brush my teeth Don’t tell anyone, Thomas.” that will never not be funny. Alastair taking care of little Zachary Arash Carstairs sdkhgks it's adorable, Alastair now always smiling makes my heart melt🫠 And in that place, she was not alone. Though it seemed an emptiness through which she drifted without purpose, she could sense the presence of others, not alive but not dead: bodiless, their souls whirling through the void but never meeting her or one another. They were unhappy, these souls. They did not understand what was happening to them. They kept up a constant wailing, a wordless cry of pain and sorrow that burrowed under her flesh. The first 50% of this book was so bad that I considered dnfing and giving it a one-star rating. I admit that it got better during the last 30%. That's the only reason it's getting two stars from me. Most Especially I love how Magnus Bane shows up in all the shadowhunter books. I loved the scene Magnus asked why they didn’t come to him first with their shadowhunter problems as he’s usually the one they come to. This is evident across all the books and timelines this was a very nice Motif.

Matthew was also able to tell James, and his parents, Henry and Charlotte Branwell about how he had accidentally poisoned Charlette with what he thought was a truth serum when he was a child, causing her to have a miscarriage. However, this is a new version of him, and he tells Jem that he no longer has any interest in the Herondales. I'll admit that Alastair grew a lot on me. I hated him in the previous books. But his character development and his romance with Thomas were done very well. When she’d first awakened, here in the strange bed that smelled like old straw, she’d heard a voice—Jesse’s voice—and she had tried to call out, to let him know she was conscious. But before she could, exhaustion had swept over her like a cold gray wave. An exhaustion she had never felt before, or even imagined, deep as a knife wound. Her fingertip grip on alertness had slipped, tumbling her into the darkness of her own mind, where time swayed and lurched like a ship in a storm, and she could hardly tell whether she was awake or asleep.

You will simply shine at the cabarets.” Matthew clearly felt that he had scored a victory. “No one will be looking at the performers. Well, to be fair, the performers will be painted bright red and wearing false devil horns, so they might still attract some notice.” Ariadne’s mother murmured assent, but Ariadne was troubled. The Consul and her closest advisor didn’t visit in person because they were merely eager for news. Something had them worried; something they had not mentioned to Flora. But Grace, I have never blamed you for your mother before. I will not start now. She was vile. But you are not vile. You have done wrong, but you are trying to make it right. And such trying is not easy.”

James Herondale — the man Cordelia is married to and grandson of the Prince of Hell Belial who struggles with his demonic abilities, and only recently realized his true feelings for Cordelia and Grace. Chain of Thorns ends with Matthew embarking on a journey of self-discovery with his dog Oscar Wilde (as in, an actual dog, not the author).I understand this is because the plot follows a new generation of Shadowhunters while keeping the book more YA to focus on the teens…but STILL At first, the pair will have increased power with runes, more so than typical parabatai that even fatal wounds are healed with their iratze. T hey will have an almost telepathic ability between one another, as well as an empathetic ability to feel what the other is feeling. I ncluding the other’s injuries as if they are their own, and they will have the capability to do things no other Nephilim could do.
