Description

There are two main types of fertilisers: inorganic (man-made) and organic (derived from plant or animal). Blood meal fertilizer is extremely high in nitrogen. It contains about 13.25% nitrogen content, 1.0% of phosphorous, and 0.6% of potassium. Apart from its impressive nutrient content for plants, blood meal is a non-synthetic, high-protein animal feed. Blood meal, too, provides a necessary amount of nitrogen, without which plants can’t grow. Nitrogen is a fundamental component for plant cell growth and helps in producing lush foliage. Blood Fish & Bone is a granular, powdered material which can be applied via hand or fertiliser spreader to all plants and crops.

As you can see, they are both higher in Nitrogen than the other macronutrients, although more so with Blood and Bone. This means both of these fertilisers are high growth. Bumper Crop Fish Blood & Bone meal strengthens garden plants, lawns, fruits and vegetables. It also improves the soil, the life of the bacteria in the soil and beneficial fungi such as mycorrhiza and micro bacteria. Fish, Blood & Bone cannot be taken up by the plants unless transformed (mineralisation) by bacteria from its organic state into an inorganic one. Mineralisation happens only when the conditions in the soil are right. It depends very much on the temperature of the soil, the water content, the pH, the amount of organic material, the time of application and the carbon in the soil. Powdered blood and bone can be mixed with water, but it doesn’t dissolve fully. To use blood and bone in water, stir it regularly between each plant to stop it from settling at the bottom of your watering can. However, liquid blood and bone is mainly used for commercial applications such as for turf farms, golf courses, and commercial growers. Blood Fish and Bone Fertiliser Powder is a general purpose plant food for strong healthy growth. Blood, Fish and Bone fertiliser is a plant food provides a rapid boost to flowers, fruit and vegetables. Fish, Blood & Bone is an organic-based general purpose plant food which provides the major nutrients required for strong healthy growth. It is suitable for use on most types of flowers and ideal for feeding fruit and vegetables. Fish, Blood & Bone provides both a rapid boost and long-lasting results so a single application lasts up to six weeks to keep plants in best condition and encourage flowering.

Similarly to fish, blood and bone, it is useful for tomatoes and peppers to prevent diseases related to calcium deficiency like blossom end rot. How is Blood and Bone Different from Fish, Blood and Bone?

Hillel, Daniel (2007). Soil in the Environment: Crucible of Terrestrial Life. Elsevier Science. p.161. ISBN 9780080554969.

While blood, fish and bone is one alternative to synthetic fertilisers, vegetarians can rest assured that there are plenty of other adequate fertiliser options out there. Sources Before adding blood meal, identify the qualities of your existing soil. By analyzing your soil with a good soil test kit, you can find out the nutrient content and pH level.

When to use bone meal fertiliser

Fertilisers aren’t the only way to help soil maintain nutrients and keep plants growing healthily. Before the 19th century, most farmers fertilised crops using more basic organic techniques, such as using manure or planting legumes with nitrogen-fixing bacteria in their roots. Meanwhile, greater awareness of environmental issues has made growers consider returning to more nature-friendly ways of growing. If vigorous leaf growth is your aim, then Blood and Bone is the best choice. But keep in mind that high Nitrogen levels can cause burning of foliage.
