The secondary characters in this book (many of them with occasional points of view,) were wonderful to read.

Isabelle was an infuriating character, I couldn't root for her or feel sorry for her even though she was grieving for her dead husband and her life had turned upside down. I normally take to one or more of her characters, especially the main players, however, I didn't find this the case in this story.I'd say this is a great beach read, but don't expect to be challenged by it or spend a lot of time thinking about it after. This is an early JoJo Moyes novel that features the Delancy family living in London, but the accidental death of Isabel's husband leaves her devastated, grieving and in dire financial straits.

I could visualise the ramshackle old house that she subsequently inherits at a totally desperate time of her life and, just when it seems nothing can possibly get worse, it does. And of course Isabel is so incredibly gullible and naive with things like this so she doesn’t see what’s happening right under her nose.I have read several of Jojo Moyes' novels and have enjoyed them - this one, though, just didnt do it for me.

I find it slightly slower during the narration at the beginning, but then everything speeds up, keeping the reader glued to the pages as always. The main characters are much more of a realistic mixture of traits, and I found Isabel's children particularly likeable. Given I live in a rural area and have done my share of hunting (bird more than beast), that part wouldn't bother me as long as it wasn't gratuitous.
