We meet, young, old, deformed, trans and without a doubt 100 of the most beautiful women I have read about. I got led to this book after reading The Guardian's excerpts from Laura Dodsworth's upcoming book Manhood. I love that the subjects' own words and stories are edited minimally, only for flow, and allowed to come through in each woman's voice. I also learnt more about the power of other woman's perceptions on women's decisions about how they might dress and behave, and a closer view on being in a relationship with a man, from a woman's point of view.

When I first saw Laura Dodsworth's project, Bare Reality - which shares 100 unretouched, anonymous pictures of real women's breasts - I was completely fascinated. This touching, inspirational book cuts through the sexual objectification of breasts and encapsulates how unique, yet similar, we all are.

I wanted to re-humanise women through honest photography, present our breasts as they really are and burst the “fantasy bubble” of the youthful, idealised and sexualised breasts presented by the media. She is the author of the two instant Sunday Times Bestsellers, 'Free Your Mind: The new world of manipulation and how to resist it' (2023) and 'A State of Fear: How the UK government weaponised fear during the Covid-19 pandemic’ (2021).I could wax lyrical about how I must like this book, but I will conclude by saying that this book is not just for women.

It celebrates the diversity of women’s bodies, and refocuses us to the stories that our bodies can tell and the value they hold, rather than the various ways they can be judged.By turning my lens on physical taboos, I catalyse a ground-breaking conversation into social taboos and offer a deeply personal perspective on our most private, painful and pleasurable stories. Womanhood departs from the 'ideal vagina' and presents the gentle un-airbrushed truth, allowing us to understand and celebrate our diversity. Your usual photography book is all about the photographer either showing off their technical skills or is self promotion. Ich schau das Buch mit meiner 12-Jährigen Tochter an, sie fand es erst sehr seltsam, aber nun hat sie Spaß dran und vielleicht schafft es etwas Freiheit im Vergleich zu Germanys next top Model.
