These beautifully created dragon gutters in Krakow, have a bit of a nickname when heavy rains start pouring on the city– Puking Dragons! Two newer mounds commemorate Polish generals, with the most visited being Kopiec Kościuszki, finished in 1823, which offers spectacular views of Wawel Castle, St Mary’s Basilica, the Main Square and Błonia Park.

Not many people seem to know this, but Krakow is one of six cities that has an original Leonardo da Vinci hanging (and one of my favorites actually).If you’re looking to get away from the crowds, head to the less visited area of the Podgórze District. You’ll get more rain in the spring but also blooming flowers while the fall offers stunning autumn colors. These are the opening lines of Wisława Szymborska’s poem “Nothing Twice” that can now be viewed in Polish on the side of the newly opened Szymborska Park. Be sure to try the city’s most famous dish, pierogi — moreish dumplings filled with meat, mushrooms, cheese or potato. The country also has lots of traditional desserts too, like paczki (a Polish donut) and makowiec (poppy-seed cake).

An important thing to note though; post-pandemic, Charlotte stopped serving their jams, chocolates, and honey in huge shareable jars.There are tons of tourist information points throughout the city, but InfoKrakow is the only official tourist information center sponsored by the city of Krakow, where you can find free information and helpful Krakowians available to book tours for you or point you in the right direction of your destination. The intricate altar underwent major restoration work in Poland and was put back in its place at the Basilica 10 years later. The museum incorporates 3D technology and videos to show how the city grew and changed over the centuries.
