Inspired by kids and created with their help, Beano’s 85th Birthday issue is dedicated to all the children out there, because being a kid never gets old. In November 2020, Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson, the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, and footballer Marcus Rashford were all featured in a special issue of the Beano written for adults, which reflected on the events of 2020. An eight-page pull-out, titled Beanow, has also been created from children’s comments and pictures summing up the highlights of being a child in the present day, including dancing, rapping and catapults. Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, Stirling cheekily suggested that Sir Mick Jagger, who like the Beano also celebrates a big birthday this week - 80 - must be a reader of the publication as his band the Rolling Stones are still young at heart.

Since its creation, it has created a number of household children’s characters, most notably Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher. The "sustainable" tartan consists of Dennis' favourite black and red colours, just like the jumper he has worn for seven decades. The pair were also picked as the celebrities kids would most like to be best friends with, followed by Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, Manchester City player Phil Foden and Styles. Other notable celebrities include F1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton, former England footballer Jill Scott, singer Adele and broadcaster David Attenborough.
